The #WellGood Campaign

In 2012 we at Family Business Place launched the #wellgood campaign in partnership with charity Fields of Life. The initiative helps to bring water, education and healthcare to those who desperately need it in East Africa.

We want to encourage as many businesses as possible to sponsor a drinking well for just £4,000. Why not use your Ten Days and put on a series of fundraising events? Not only will you be helping a great cause, it’s also a great chance to have fun with your team and a brilliant PR story for your business.

We have some fantastic businesses that have got involved and given the gift that just keeps on giving – clean water!

Through collaborations with local communities and churches in East Africa, the Fields of Life Trust builds schools, drills well and provides health education to some of the poorest areas in East Africa. So far, they have built an incredible 103 schools, 4 health centres and 180 borehole wells.

Family Business Place is dedicated to supporting Fields of Life and their efforts across East Africa, creating hope, faith and love to hundreds of villages and communities. Through our National events, we are able to raise fantastic amounts of money for Fields of Life, as well as enduring treacherous treks across some of the most beautiful parts of the world including Patagonia, The Sahara Desert, The Great Wall of China, The Arctic, Mount Elgon, Peru & Namibia.

Now, with over 30 borehole wells funded, built and dotted around Uganda, we are determined to involve even more Family Businesses to pledge £4,000 for their own family well, and reach 50 by 2020!

From gaining basic qualifications to apprenticeships with international companies, we get young people on the road to a job.

MOVING ON
We offer rent deposits, private accommodation and support for six months after they’ve left Centrepoint.

Parenta have teamed up with Fields of Life on the ground in Uganda, and have over 20 years’ experience in building schools for vulnerable children. Together, they ensure that 91p in every pound is put towards building pre-schools in Africa. All the money raised is used to create positive, lasting change for children and their families.

To date, Parenta have built 4 pre-schools and are funding for a 5th this year. With their incredible continued support, they aim to build a total of 10 schools over the coming years.

My Ten Days

About
Small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can find it difficult to believe in their ability to make a dramatic contribution to the greater good of the community in a way that big business does through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) stragety. My Ten Days offers SMEs the opportunity to kick-start their own CSR strategy and to demonstrate that small business makes a big difference.

My Ten Days encourages and supports owners and managers of small to medium size enterprises (SMEs) to give one employee ten days paid leave to do voluntary work or fund raising. It doesn’t matter what you do, or who you do it for – your business could make a real difference to someone else’s life and collectively our SME community can be recognised for its combined effort in giving back.

Many people don’t know where to start when it comes to volunteering or fundraising which is why the My Ten Days website is a perfect match-maker between businesses and charities. It gives employees the opportunity to see what’s out there, whether it be local or further afield.

How to
Whether it’s teaching, trekking or training, there’s something for everyone. Just decide what kind of activity you’d love to be part of for your Ten Days. Struggling for inspiration? Take a look at our Projects page for some ideas that might spark something off and get your mind racing with anticipation.

Next step is to decide whom all the blood, sweat and tears are for, because at the end of the day it’s all about giving a helping hand to people who don’t have the opportunities we do themselves. Either choose from the charities listed or let us know about another organisation you’d love to support.

Now take it to the big guy, the cheese, the man or woman at the top. We all want to keep our holiday for that lazy week or two on the beach, which is why your boss needs to agree to the My Ten Days initiative and give you an extra Ten Days paid leave. To make it easier to twist his or her arm, just download the members’ pack which includes a list of all the pros of My Ten Days. After that, resistance, we hope, will be futile.

Once your boss has agreed that you’re an inspiration to the team and has okayed your Ten Days, it’s time to get talking to your chosen charity who will guide you through the ins and outs of your challenge.

Preparation for the big day. Whether you need to start your training, send out fundraising letters or just get to know a bit more about what you’ll be doing, it’s important that you spend the next few weeks/months preparing yourself so that you get the most out of it. After all it’s your Ten Days!
