NEWS: The Family Way: Family Businesses offer strong showing at the KEiBA’s

With 40 businesses throwing their name into the hat, the inaugural Family Business of the Year award has already become the most popular compared to any other category.

Anita Brightley-Hodges of Family Business Place (FBP) is co-judging the event alongside the sponsor Lindsey Gallagher of the Gallagher Group. FBP’s Chairmen is exceedingly proud to be a part of this year’s Kent Excellence in Business Awards (KEiBAs), which is showcasing some of the best businesses Kent has to offer.

Anita said, “We are thrilled that family businesses are getting the recognition they deserve in the vibrancy of Kent’s economy and community.”

Hosted by KM Media Group and Kent County Council, the 10-year anniversary of the KEiBAs appears to be the biggest yet, with the introduction of the brand-new category.

Of the original entrants, four incredible family businesses remain in contention; Biddenden Vineyards, Bedfont Scientific from Harrietsham, BTCC racers Team HARD. and Aylesford’s TPS Global Logistics.

“This is a massive achievement for us as a family and a business,” Team HARD. boss Tony Gilham said. “It is testament to the dedication and hard work that our staff have put in that we have been selected as a top 4 finalist in this category.”

Fellow front-runner Bedfont Scientific are also vying for the Technology Business of the Year. Managing Director Jason Smith was thrilled with their nominations.

“To have been chosen as a finalist in 2 categories is truly an honour,” he continues. “The Bedfont Family works so hard and just to be named as a finalist is great recognition for all they do.”

As well as Bedfont, Biddenden and TPS Global are hoping to be winners in two categories, with further nominations in the Tourism & Leisure Business of the Year and Apprenticeship of the Year awards respectively.

This will be the largest iteration of the event in its history, with a record number of entrants to date. A huge 329 businesses originally put their names forward, with the county-wide coverage just as important to them as the award itself.

Celebrating their 10th anniversary in style, 600 people are due to be in attendance at the grand ceremony at the Kent Event Centre in Detling.

Winners of the 16 categories are due to be announced at the awards on the 21st of June – for more information on the event and the finalists, visit www.keiba.co.uk.
